Your Pet's Surgery

Surgical Care At Brookfield Veterinary Hospital, we place emphasis on gentle and compassionate care for your pet. Our goal is to make the hospital experience for you pet as pain-free and as stress-free as possible. We achieve this by using the best anesthetics available. We can confidently say that our patients do extremely well post-operatively with stress-free recoveries from anesthesia.

Your pet has access to complete routine surgical care at our hospital, including spays and neuters. Other surgical procedures we perform include:

  • Mass removals
  • Skin biopsies
  • Exploratory laparotomies
  • Entropion
  • Perineal urethrostomies
  • Anal gland removal
  • Surgical treatment of abscesses and bite wounds

Our veterinarians also are capable of performing selected orthopedic procedures, including Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) repair using a lateral suture technique (for clients that decline referral for TPLO surgery) and selected fracture repairs on simple uncomplicated fractures (more complicated fractures are referred to local surgeons).

Your Pet's Safety and Comfort

We pride ourselves in providing the best anesthesia possible. The only gas anesthesia that we use is sevoflurane - the same gas anesthesia that is used in human hospitals. All dogs receive pre-medication (including hydromorphone) and midazolam. Cats receive buprenorphine and butorphanol. For procedures that require more involved pain control, we employ constant rate infusions that supply continuous pain medication including morphine, ketamine, and lidocaine. Anesthesia monitoring includes blood pressure monitoring, pulse oximetry and temperature monitoring.

To ensure your pet's safety during surgery, a trained veterinary technician is on hand to monitor your pet's condition. All patients are kept warm and comfortable using circulating warm water blankets. Your pet's safety and comfort are our highest priority during all surgical procedures.
